I just found a 1972 Toyota FJ55 on Craigslist! And it’s only $6,500! And it’s not super far from where I live! And I have no money! Dang it! These are some of my favorite classic SUVs, and I don’t imagine there are many in this country, let alone Idaho. But here’s one in Boise! And I even like the color... Sigh. No iron pigs for me :(

Basically. You could saw these in half, light it on fire, and sell it on BaT for big bucks.

Boise is a 7 hour drive for me so I’ll have to pass. There is also the minor fact that my wife would kill me if I spent $6.5k on an old SUV, but that’s a secondary issue.

I’d have thought that every last FJ55 would have reverted to rust by now.
The last one I saw was in 1995 and a colleague owned it...he left the carpark one afternoon and, as it bumped through the gutter onto the street, there was a cascade of rust from the floor and rear wheel arch onto the street. He left a trail of it as he went up the road...
As for the price...you Americans are mad.

You must obey speed limits or something. I got from Camano Island to Boise in 9 hours once.

That was according to Google Maps since I’ve never driven to Boise. YMMV. Of course traffic on SR95 would be a limiting factor due to the lack of passing lanes. If taking 395 down I’d have to stop at the market outside of the TriCities that has the really good Mexican food which would slow things down.

But these are rare and exotic here! Doubtless we would think the same of Japan for many many reasons. In America, these are no longer driven by child molesters because everyone wised up. In Japan, D R I F T
I’m sure there are lots of other B ig 3 crap cans that could be considered exotic in other places and even incur desire that cannot be understood in their natural habitat.

True...but the FJ55 is, quite frankly, the second worst Land Cruiser of all time. Rare and exotic counts for nothing if the vehicle is an absolute turd.

Certaintly the ugliest Land Cruiser, but what is the first worst?
Also, what other Japanese vehicle might be desir able abroad that is not well regarded in its home country? For America, that is pretty much any Buick from the last 40 years (cuz China) plus quite a few Cadillacs from that time perio d. And Dodge Ram Creeper Vans, apparently.

The worst (IMO) was the RJ70/73 Bundera with the 22R engine from the late 80s . Right vehicle but wrong engine...
